Reclusive Racing in Career Best Form

Eight-year-old gelding Reclusive made it three wins from his last four starts with his victory in the De Bortoli Pace at Yarra valley on Monday afternoon. And co-trainers Simone and Andrew Walker couldn’t be happier with the oldest member of their small team.

“He’s a very happy horse at the moment,” Simone said after the win. “He’s always had a few joint issues and suffers from a bit of laminitis from time to time and so he really does take a bit of maintenance.  But he’s really in the zone at the moment and he won well again today.”

“These days he has a pretty varied work program and we often use him as a galloping pacemaker for some of the youngsters. He just seems fit and well at the moment and it’s showing on the track.”

Walker gave Reclusive the perfect trip on Monday, settling the gelding in the coveted one-out-one-back trail and saving him for one run at the leaders leaving the back straight the last time. In a stirring battle to the line Reclusive prevailed by two metres over Six Elements who led the field for home with Heavens Showgirl filling third placing.

Purchased at the 2014 APG Yearling Sale, Reclusive is by Rock N Roll Heaven from the smart race mare Indigenous who bankrolled over $100,000 on the track. The mare has also been a real success in the breeding barn having left eight winners including Life Inthefastlane (18 wins & $264,000) Lansita (12 wins & $107,000) and the promising Nostra Ideal.

Breeders John and Christine Yeomans will offer an American Ideal filly from Indigenous at the upcoming APG Sale on 7 February. The yearling filly should attract keen interest from buyers given her black type pedigree and shapes as an outstanding long term broodmare prospect.
